When you receive PCS orders to Ramstein Air Base, one of the first decisions you'll face is where to stay during your TLA period. Many families default to Kaiserslautern or try to get a spot at the on-base TLF — but there's a better option that most newcomers don't know about: Landstuhl.
Mumo's Inn is located at Beethovenstraße 37A, 66849 Landstuhl, in the quiet Atzel neighborhood. From our front door to the Ramstein West Gate, it's just 8 km via the L363 — about a 10-minute drive with almost no traffic. That's shorter and more predictable than driving in from K-Town during rush hour, where the B40 and A6 can easily double your commute.
The Atzel neighborhood is residential, peaceful, and surrounded by forests. It's the kind of place where you can take your kids for a walk after dinner or let the dog out without worrying about busy streets. For families arriving after a long transatlantic flight, that calm environment makes the first few days in Germany much easier.
There's another advantage that matters for dual-military couples and families with medical appointments: Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) is just 850 meters from our apartment — a short walk. If one spouse works at LRMC and the other at Ramstein, Landstuhl puts you right between both installations. No other TLA location in the KMC area gives you that kind of dual-base convenience.
Families often prefer Landstuhl over Kaiserslautern because it's smaller, quieter, and feels more like a neighborhood than a city. Compared to the on-base TLF, you get significantly more space (our apartment sleeps up to six), a full kitchen, a washer and dryer, and the freedom to come and go on your own schedule — no shared hallways, no hotel-style check-in times.
And because we know that arriving in a new country without a car can be stressful, we include a free loaner car — a Toyota Yaris Hybrid — so you can drive to Ramstein, run errands at the commissary, or explore the area while you wait for your POV or rental. It's one less thing to figure out during an already hectic PCS move.
